In the fiscal year 2024/25, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Frw 21,512 billion, up from Frw 18,371 billion in 2023/24. Services contributed 52 % to GDP; agriculture contributed 21 % while industry contributed 22 %. Net direct taxes accounted for 5 %.
GDP growth was 6.3 %. Sector performed as follows:
- Agriculture increased by 4 %.
- Industry increased by 3 %.
- Services increased by 9 %.
Agriculture
The overall performance of agriculture was 4 %. Within agriculture, food crops production remained stable with no growth recorded. The export crops production increased by 11 %.
Industry
The overall growth of industry was 3 %. This growth is attributed to manufacturing activities which increased by 8 % and electricity which increased by 19 %. on the other hand, construction activities decreased by 1 % after an increase of 24% in 2023/24.
The growth in manufacturing was boosted by a 23 % increase in manufacturing of chemicals, rubber & plastic products, a 18 % increase in manufacturing of metal products, machinery and equipment; 18 % increase in manufacturing of wood and paper and printing services and a 4 % increase in food processing.
Services
The overall growth in service sector was 9 %. Wholesale and retail trade increased by 13 %; transport activities increased by 4 %, hotel and restaurants increased by 3 %, financial services increased by 10 %, telecommunication services increased by 14 %.
