In the third quarter of 2025, Rwanda’s total trade was valued at US$ 1,932.58 million, representing an increase of 11.33% from the second quarter of 2025. Domestic exports were estimated at US$ 389.99 million, imports at US$ 1,368.93 million, and re-exports at US$ 173.65 million.
During this quarter, Rwanda’s total domestic exports decreased by 41.53% compared to the third quarter of 2024 (US$ 389.99 million and US$ 667 million respectively). However, they increased by 12.70% compared to the second quarter of 2025.
Simultaneously, the country’s total imports decreased by 21.85% in the third quarter of 2025 relative to the same quarter of 2024 and decreased by 9.74% from the second quarter of 2025. Similarly, re-exports declined by 5.91% in the third quarter of 2025 over the same quarter of 2024 and increased by 21.94% compared to the second quarter of 2025.
The top five export destinations were the United Arab Emirates, the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Uganda, and the Luxembourg.
In terms of re-exports, the top five destinations were the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Burundi and Uganda. Democratic Republic of Congo accounted for 95.45% of Rwanda’s total re-exports. The most re-exported commodity group was “Food and live animals” (US$ 54.75 million) followed by “Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials” (US$ 29.72 million).
China, Tanzania, India, Kenya and United Arab Emirates were the top five countries of origin for Rwanda’s imports measured on a CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) basis.
