“Sharing of experiences in capacity building in the use of Big Data sources for informed decisions.”

On 29th March 2023, NISR through its Data Revolution and Big Data department organized a half-day workshop at NISR Training Center and Data science campus, Kigali Rwanda.

The workshop brought together several participants from public institutions, private sector, academia, and regional bodies to explore the benefits of big data analytics and data science to inform policies.

Speaking at the opening session, Mr. Yusuf Murangwa, the Director General of NISR said: “Data is a resource that when used does not deplete but it’s value increases.”

NISR is working to improve accessibility of data to inform policy without compromising the privacy of individuals,” he told participants.

The workshop aims at sharing experience in using big data to inform policy and decision making; raising awareness and sharing experiences of ongoing capacity building activities, challenges and needs from stakeholders to influence and inform planning.

Other major purposes if to explore potential partnerships and pool of experts to support National Statistical System (NSS) capacity development in data science and Big Data analytics.
