Following are key trends from the fifth Rwanda Population and Housing Census (PHC) in Kinyarwanda language
Consumer Price Index - May 2023
Urban CPI increased by 14.1 percent on annual basis (May 2023 and May 2022) and decreased by 1.3 percent on monthly basis (May 2023 to April 2023). The annual average inflation rate between May 2023 and May 2022 was 18.2 percent.
Index of Industrial Production (April-2023)
In April 2023, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) shows that, industrial output (formal sector) increased by 5.5 percent compared to April 2022, against an increase of 8.2 percent on annual average basis.
Formal external trade in Goods report (April 2023)
The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 256.58 million in April 2023, a decrease of 20.33 per cent compared to the previous month of March. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 0.15 per cent on the deficit of April 2022.
Producer Price Index Report - April 2023
Rwanda’s general Producer Price Index combining both prices for local and export products registered an annual increase of 9.5 percent in April 2023, Local PPI increased by 10.6 percent in April 2023, and Export PPI increased by 6.5 percent in April 2023.
Labour Force Survey Trends - February 2023 (Q1)
The Labour Force Survey (LFS) programme collect data on employment and labour underutilization characteristics of the population on a continuous basis, providing quarterly estimates of the main labour force aggregates with sufficient precision at the National level since 2016.

Urban CPI increased by 17.8 percent on annual basis (April 2023 and April 2022) and increased by 1.1 percent on monthly basis (April 2023 to March 2023). The annual average inflation rate between April 2023 and April 2022 was 18.1 percent.
Formal external trade in Goods report (March 2023)
The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 322.04 million in March 2023, an increase of 18.99 per cent compared to the previous month of February. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 15.98 per cent on the deficit of March 2022.
Seasonal Agricultural Survey (Season A, 2023)
NISR has conducted the Seasonal Agriculture Survey to provide more comprehensive data on the Rwandan agriculture sector. During 2023 Season A, the data collection activities started from 4th December 2022 and ended on 16th February 2023 covering 1,200 segments and 345 large scale farmers’ holdings across the country.
