The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has taken center stage in the world of data science by hosting the United Nations Datathon 2023, as well as serving as the home to the UN Big Data Regional Hub for Africa. This prestigious event has drawn over 400 teams, each consisting of 3 to 5 members, from across the globe. The NISR site proudly hosts six diverse teams, representing participants from nine different nationalities, including Namibia, Comoros, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Netherlands, and, of course, Rwanda.

The global opening ceremony for the UN Datathon took place today, November 3rd, in Montevideo, Uruguay, at 3 pm local time. This corresponds to 8 pm Kigali time. The opening ceremony was a momentous occasion where the global community of data enthusiasts, professionals, and experts came together to celebrate the spirit of collaboration and data-driven innovation.

NISR's involvement in this event marks a significant step in advancing data science and its applications in Africa and beyond. As the host of the UN Big Data Regional Hub for Africa, NISR is at the forefront of the region's efforts to harness the potential of data for sustainable development.
