Seasonal Agricultural Survey

National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has conducted the seasonal agricultural survey for the agricultural year 2024/2025, which covers three primary agricultural seasons in Rwanda. The main agricultural seasons include Season A, spanned from September 2024 to February 2025, Season B which started from March to June 2025, and Season C which started from July to September 2025. The survey covered 1,200 segments across the country.
In 2025 Season A, the total national land area was estimated at 2.376 million hectares. For Season A of 2025 agricultural year, 1.399 million hectares (59%) were used for agriculture. Of this, 1.019 million hectares are planted with seasonal crops, 0.492 million hectares under permanent crops, and 0.096 million hectares dedicated to permanent pasture.
In Season B, 1.423 million hectares (60%) was used for agriculture. This was distributed as 1.022 million hectares for seasonal crops, 0.524 million hectares for permanent crops, and 0.1 million hectares for permanent pasture.
Commonly used agricultural inputs include improved seeds, organic and chemical fertilizers, as well as pesticides/fungicides. The 2025 results indicate that, 37.3 % of farmers in season A, 18 % in season B, and 18.9 % in season C used improved seeds.
In season A, 88 % of farmers applied organic fertilizer, 80.8 % in season B, and 83.5 % applied organic fertilizers in season C.
In addition, 63.2 % of famers applied inorganic fertilizer in season A, 55.5 % of famers applied inorganic fertilizer in season B while 65.8 % in season C. In regard to use of pesticides, in season A of 2025, 41.9 % of farmers applied pesticides in season A, 36.6 % in season B and 67 % in season C.
