The purpose is to gain a better understanding of the nature and extent of food insecurity and malnutrition in the country. It seeks to analyse trends of food insecurity and malnutrition over time, measuring their extent and depth and identifying their underlying causes.

In annual change it increased by 5.67% compared to 3.88% in the previous month. This gives a general inflation rate by an annual average of 6.1% during the month of January 2013.
