Industrial producer prices down in Rwanda

Prices of industrial products went down 0.01 percent in December 2012 compared to the prevailing prices in November of the same year, according to a latest report published by the Economic Department at the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).

However, the report said "On a year-to-year basis, industrial producer prices rose by 2.78 percent compared to the figure for December 2011, adding that the overall reference period for the calculation of PPI-M is the fourth quarter 2003.

The NISR attributed the increase to higher industrial producer prices of food products, beverages and tobacco, noting, however, that prices of beer, soft drinks and tobacco rose during the period.

At the same time, the report shows that although the export price of coffee decreased in October 2012, a very slight reversal in the overall trend has been observed one month later.
