Microdata
NISR uses the term microdata to refer to information about specific characteristics of individual people or entities such as households, business enterprises, facilities, farms or even geographical areas such as villages or towns. They may be obtained from statistical sample surveys and censuses, or as a by-product of an administrative process. Microdata are the inputs for quantitative analysis, supporting an in-depth understanding of socio-economic issues by identifying relationships and by estimating interactions between phenomena. Microdata, therefore, provide the basic evidence for designing projects and formulating policies, for targeting interventions and for monitoring and measuring the impacts and results of past actions.
Microdata are the inputs for advanced quantitative analysis. Most are obtained from sample surveys. Users, therefore, will need to have an understanding of sampling and will also need to have access to and expertise in the use of statistical analysis software packages such as Stata, SPSS or SAS.
While anyone is free to use the data, subject to the terms of use, we expect that most users will be researchers and analysts with experience in the use of statistical techniques.
Integrated Multi-Sectoral Information System (IMIS) - Rwanda and National Data Archive (NADA) - Rwanda, are designed as tools to provide access to microdata in NISR.
